An international panel of outdoor experts with backgrounds in media, design, retail, industry and sports will assess all submissions for the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD. During a two-stage evaluation process consisting of a digital pre-selection (from May 9th - 15th) and a panel meeting (from May 31st - June 1st), the jury will select the most outstanding innovations, which they will honour with an Award, GOLD Award, Green Award and Start-up Award.

Mark Held

General Secretary European Outdoor Group, Switzerland
Mark Held is General Secretary of the European Outdoor Group (EOG), an association founded in 2003 by the 19 largest outdoor companies in the world. He also represents the outdoor industry in the FESI (Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry). Mark has been involved in the outdoor industry for over 20 years – among other things, as head of product development at Berghaus and the Lowe Alpine Group.

Katrin Bojarski

Textile Engineer, Germany
For over 10 years, Katrin Bojarski has worked in the international sporting goods industry as Product Manager for Vaude, Shinih and Polartec among others. During this time, she gained substantial expertise in all important product groups of outdoor hardware and apparel. Her extensive experience enables Katrin to oversee the complete value chain of the textile industry – from fiber to final product – while innovation, sustainability and functionality always remain the most important factors in product development for her. With her own engineering consultancy, the German works as freelancer for a number of international projects in the sports and outdoor industry.

Chris Townsend

Outdoor Writer & Photographer, UK
Chris Townsend is an outdoor writer and photographer specializing in long distance walks in wild places. He is the author of the award-winning The Backpacker’s Handbook and many other books and has been reviewing gear for The Great Outdoors magazine for many years. Currently he is also working with Outdoor Gear Coach.

Terje Malum

Head of Purchasing Outdoor XXL Sport & Villmark, Norway
Terje Malum has been around outdoor products and fishing tackles for 25 years. After working in sales and as store manager for a tackle store in the early days of his career, the Norwegian joined XXL Sport & Villmark in 2001. The avid fishermen has held several positions within the company and accounts for the outdoor collection since 2004, leading a team that serves XXL’s stores and e-commerce offerings in four countries. As Head of Purchase Outdoor, he is responsible for a wide range of product categories: tents, sleeping bags and mats, backpacks, boots and fishing tackles amongst others. In his spare time, Terje enjoys chasing fish, preferably with a fly rod, both in Norwegian mountain lakes and streams and wherever else good fishing and nature experiences are found.

Mireia Miró

Athlete & Manager of the Atomic Skimountaineering Team, Spain
Mireia Miró has been a member of the Spanish Skimountaneering National Team since 2006. The former World Champion, avid trail runner and base jumper combines her passion for the outdoor sports with her studies and work. Apart from her Master’s studies in Sports Marketing, the Catalan is also a certified massage therapist and regularly spends time working on a mountain hut. For the last three years, she has been Team Manager of the Atomic Ski Mountaineering Team.

Frank Wacker

Editor Equipment outdoor magazine, Germany
Frank Wacker has been actively involved in outdoor sports since he was a boy – and knows from experience what a difference good-quality products can make. He worked in outdoor retail and supported the outdoor industry in product development. Frank still gets excited about interesting new designs. He’s been a member of outdoor magazine’s editorial team for over 20 years and has been testing products as equipment editor since 2003.

Erika Spengler

Outdoor Blogger, Germany
Erika Spengler started her blog in 2010 already – a time, when blogging was still in its early years. During her studies in Tourism followed by an editorial traineeship, the German initially wrote about trekking, later about mountaineering and in recent years about climbing and her experiences from a woman’s perspective. Meanwhile, is amongst the biggest alpine blogs in the German speaking region. Erika hasn’t regretted the decision to start her own business with her blog for one second.

Ke Hai Truong

Designer & Sportswear Design Consulting, Germany
As a design graduate Ke Hai Truong has made a career out of his passion for technical sports apparel. Driven by his enthusiasm for technically sophisticated products, he has gained in-depth knowledge about current trends and innovations. Having worked as Product Manager and Designer for several renowned brands, Ke Hai has gathered a wealth of experience in the Outdoor industry. Today, he consults a number of apparel brands specialized in Hunting Workwear, Sportswear and Outdoor. In a positive sense, he can be referred to as a true product nerd and “gear freak”.

Boris Gnielka

Editor Testing/Technology, outdoor-Magazine, Germany
Already during his studies, Boris Gnielka spent as much time as possible in the mountains. Always on his packing list: a good camera and plenty of equipment. To finance his hobbies, he jobbed for a number of outdoor retailers, where he developed a passion for quality gear. He also published travel journals and equipment-related articles in newspapers and magazines – amongst them the outdoor-Magazin. In 2000, right after his studies, he turned his hobby into a career, moved with wife and dog from Hanover to Ludwigsburg and started as an editor with the outdoor-Magazin, which he has been loyal to ever since. As he has with his hobbies: photography, rock climbing, mountaineering and trekking tours – his dog always at his side.

Natasha Bloemhard

Publisher and editor-in-chief Salt Magazine, The Netherlands
As the founder and ‘brainiac’ behind Salt Magazine (based in the Netherlands since 2006), Natasha Bloemhard is a true believer in living the outdoor lifestyle. With over 25 years of experience in the world of outdoor and fun sports, creative culture and sustainability, she shares her passion with the Salt community on a daily base, writing about subjects that matter to her. Her inspiration? To motivate and enable people to make an adventure out of every day, in which experiencing consciously and giving meaning to life are key.

Sebastian Wagner

Department Manager Outdoor - Sport Gruner GmbH, Germany
From early age on, Sebastian Wagner traveled to far away countries with the Boy Scouts, thus discovering his love for nature. The passion for globetrotting has captured him ever since, so much that he turned it into a career. After an education in tourism and Business Administration, he worked in Scandinavia and Latin America, before changing careers to sports retail, where he started off working on the sales floor. As manager of a mountain sports store he further increased his passion for functional, high-quality gear. Today, Sebastian works as head of the outdoor and mountain sports department at Sport Gruner in Constance.

Hendrik Morkel

Photographer, Journalist, Travel Blogger, Germany & The Netherlands
During his almost 10 years as photographer, journalist & travel blogger, Hendrik Morkel has told countless stories about the outdoors of many places – from Bosnia-Herzegovina to Mexico and, of course, his adopted home Finland. His work is published in both print and online media. Being a self-confessed “gear nerd”, he has also tested and written about outdoor equipment for different magazines for many years, which earned him a profound knowledge on outdoor products. The German with Dutch roots feels as much at home on skis as he does rock climbing and also spends his free time in the outdoors together with his family.
